What Rene Magritte can teach us about presentations

MagrittePipe

Today is Rene Magritte's 110th. birthday.  This pipe must be one of his most famous images, with its puzzling caption "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" (This is not a pipe.)  His point, of course, is that it is a picture of a pipe, not a real pipe.
A lesson we can learn from Magritte is:
Typical presentation

This is not a presentation!

It is not even a picture of a presentation: it is a picture of a report, projected onto a wall.  Projection does not magically turn a stack of information into a presentation.  If you want to turn your message into a presentation, you will need to get a clear idea of who your audience is and what you want them to do about your message, and then turn your message into a visually appealing story that will get them to act on your message.

Happy Birthday Rene.
